Aspartame is a methyl ester of aspartic acid. It is an artificial sweetener around 200 times sweeter than sucrose and it is commonly used in combination with other artificial sweeteners to better simulate sucrose´s taste in foods and beverages. Aspartame can be used in a multitude of food and beverage systems, also products such as syrups, salad dressings, baked products and snack foods.
